Hello!
This is a lesson I did with my six year old students. It was a revision of body parts, even though it is not a great lesson, it worked quite well and the students had fun. I planned it thinking of the students using the four skills while playing so the learning was meaningful to them. They worked in different ways: as a group, in pairs, individually… Since the beginning, the lesson attracted the attention of the pupils and was motivating to them because there were a lot of games and they had fun while learning.
-
Warm up (5’) : To start the lesson, I told the students to sit in a circle on the carpet and be quiet because that day a new friend had come to the classroom. Then, a big monster-doll showed up from inside my bag, but firstly the head, because it was shy. Then, the students had to say hello to him in order to relax him and eventually he went out of the bag and greeted the students.
-
The monster’s body parts (5’) : when we all met the monster, we started talking about its body: has it got a big or small head? Has it got big or small eyes? How many arms has it got? How many legs? etc. This way, the students answered the questions and spoke in English about the monster’s body. Then, they had to say the body part I pointed in the monster and later, one by one, the students had the monster and did the same as the teacher: they had to point and the rest had to say the body part.

-
Monster drawing (10’) : in a sheet of paper, the students drew a monster as I described to them, for example: the monster has got a small round body with short legs and big feet but only three toes. He has got six arms and three head. One head is small and round with big ears, one eye and a big mouth. The second head is big and square with small ears, it hasthree eyes and a big mouth with lots of teeth. The third head is triangular with two small ears, it has got two eyes, a small nose and a small round mouth. Then, they compared their drawings and drew a new monster as they liked and wrote and point how many ears, eyes, etc. had it got and showed it to the rest of pupils.
-
Vocabulary cards game (10’): I stuck some flashcards of body parts on the board and the students in pairs had to point the one I said, and the winner stayed on the board and had a new partner. With his game they trained their listening skills and review the vocabulary learned.
-
Song (5’): sing and dance “head, shoulders, knees and toes”.
-
Game: Do as I say, not as I do (10’): This game is like “Simon says” but with a difference. First, we practiced “Simon says” so that they understood the game and body parts. Then, I told them to do as I said, not as I did, and repeated the game touching my ears when saying “touch your knees”, etc. This is a good way to see who is listening to you correctly and who is just copying the movements and the students found it funnier than the original game.
-
Finish off (5’): to finish the lesson, we played to throw a ball in a circle to each other saying each time a body part without repeating.
